Don't shop when you're hungry.
If you go grocery shopping when you're hungry, you'll be more likely to purchase sugary items that aren't good for you. Try to do your grocery shopping after a meal or at least have a healthy snack before you go. Stick to a list. Before going into a grocery store, make a list of the things you need to purchase. You should fill your list with healthy, tasty, and delicious choices. When you go grocery shopping without a list beforehand, chances are you’ll come home with lots of items you shouldn’t have purchased like sugary items- which are obviously not good for you. Shop the perimeter of the store. This is where you'll find the healthiest foods, such as meat, poultry and fish, cheese and yogurt and fruits and vegetables. Remember: all fruits and vegetables have carbohydrates, so you'll need to keep the carb counts in mind as you shop. Stock up on staples. If there are certain foods you eat many times during the week, don't be afraid to stock up. In that way, you'll always have healthy choices on hand and at the same time you can eliminate multiple trips to the grocery store where you'll once again be faced with temptation. |
